Procrastination is a Disease

 ".........
Hobbies: Playing video games

TV Channel: Cartoon Channel

Likes: I like maths

Bad Habit: Procrastination
......"

The last word in the resume of an eleven years old child took my attention. He innocently calls it a bad habit. Procrastination refers to the act of replacing high-priority actions with low-priority, and thus putting off important tasks to a later time. What caught my mind is that as a child we all know it very well that deferring work implies to a direct or indirect punishment may it be  stick-beaten by a teacher or getting scolded by parents for getting lower grades. What is more surprising is that the fear keeps us away from procrastination in our childhood.

As we grow up, things get harder and our attitude gets lighter. We start delaying the work and become a machine working for deadlines. The disease takes worst shapes when we know what we have to do, but since we are so habituated to the similar situations, we think procrastination is fun. The fear which we once had in childhood wipes out and we become more responsible or in other words more irresponsible in terms of work, just because of procrastination.

And I must tell you that after six bangs by a sweeper on my room-door, I finally allowed him on his seventh visit, to clean my room. I gave him weird reasons, eyes and door both half-opened, in his past six visits, like "Dada kal kar dena (brother, do it tomorrow)", "abhi bahut nind aa rahi hai, raat ko late soya tha (feeling sleepy now as I slept late tonight)", "mai pehle se hi college ke liye late hoon (I am already late for college)" and so on. While he was cleaning the room, I asked him, "Dada, aap itni baar kyon bole room saaf karne ke liye ?(Why were you so eager to clean the room?)" and he replied gently, with broom in one hand and eyes on spider nets on ceiling, "Agar hum kaam khatm kar dete hain, to kaam hum se darta hai" which meant that, "If we finish the work, work will fear from us".

In short, if we don't procrastinate, we don't have to worry.

IIT Kharagpur Hot Start-ups 2011

Yes, We still have more than a month, to pack '2011' in a colorful box, throw it into memories and celebrate the 'new year 2012' but we have to wind-up present chores well ahead of this year's decay. Here is an attempt to compile a list of hot start-ups of IIT Kharagpur in 2011. The list is non-exhaustive and more content will be added in due time.

1. ABCIITIAN - Career Counseling (site is not up)
This start-up as the caption above says, is meant to give career counseling to juniors by final year IIT Kharagpur students. Indeed a great step for the well-being of student's community.

The webpage says as follows:
"We are team of 4th year students working on developing innovative technical and service based  products. We have represented and won in many prestigious competition, and have the ideas in front of VC etc. We wish to develop an entrepreneurial culture in kgp by sharing our knowledge of business plan writing and patent drafting.  We want extremely passionate people who would like to see the growth of an idea and be a part in the idea formation and documentation."

In short, this start-up is an start-up to support start-ups!

This is a start-up for West Bengal employees. The website says, "InnWebs (Innovation Web Service) is an experienced team of tech geeks working desperately to deliver best services at NO cost. Employee Mutual Transfer is a web service which provides potential matches for transfer of teachers of school and Madrasha mutually. We not only provide free email intimation but also free sms and call for the suitable matches found for mutual transfer". Good for those who wants their friends or relatives to see closer to their home.

4. MartAGain
It is a service started by an IIT KGP alumni, which provies a local market access to buy and sell. Currently MartAGain is in beta stage, and has started its services in IIT.

This is a non-exhaustive list of start-ups at IIT Kharagpur in 2011. If you or your friends have started something, please let me know by comment and I would add it in this list.

Tiya: A Journey Within

"If you think you are different, Think again".

'Tiya' is a small but valuable creation of Samarpan, better known for his services as a monk. I came across the book in a very strange way. Having heard about it since many days from an insisting friend, I decided not to read it just as any other book. For more than three months, I didn't read it but had talked about it every alternate day when he told me one story or other to substantiate his arguments to make me read Tiya. All in vain.

Sitting in his room one day, I just flipped a page and found it indulging enough to continue till the end. After three hours, I had actually finished reading it. The book is just so small, indulging and valuable.

The story begins with a parrot's daily routine. With some realizations, he begins a journey to the outer world from his habitat, the tree. The author takes the parrot to various places while making sure that the reader looks within himself/herself during the whole journey. The characters are planned to give a feel of how people are like. Although I can continue writing the whole story here, I would recommend Tiya for people who are open for suggestion in a very unique way where you are not directly told to do or act something specific, but are implied to understand the hidden facts conveyed in a very simple language.

Those who think they know the world better, must try it and those who think they are different, think again!

Book: Tiya
Author: Samarpan

The Indian Succession of Attacks

Past six months has taught too much politics to the people of India, for the people of India and by the people of India. The series of attacks from top-notch leaders to the civil society urging for a prosperous India, a systematic India and a corruption-free India is unquestionably pathetic.

The ex-CM of Madhya Pradesh has brought MP residents to shame by his worst use of mouth. The so-called sequence of events, Plan A, B and C can be viewed from a totally different angle.

Baba Ramdev's initiation with the black money agenda had done half harm to the cruel intentions of government. The government was neither serious nor attentive to that. Baba is well-known for his yoga teachings and health care medicines through patanjali. That it is a known fact, Baba preaches to take Lauki juice which helps curing a number of diseases. The telecast of anti-Lauki programs backed up with research from medical institutes during the PRIME TIME is surprising. Is it really Lauki harming the people or the person behind Lauki has become a danger to the smooth-running-corruption in the centre and across India?

Plan B is crystal clear from the eyes of Mr. Singh as alleged that Anna Hazare is a puppet of RSS, though I doubt whether the speaker's heart is too with him or not?

Then comes the Plan C: Shree-Shree's connections with anti-congress parties. Is it? There of course is a technology known to the speaker which India has yet to witness, which can read people's mind and can be alleged without the necessity to let alone prove but justify.

We don't want a time-machine to get us back in time to change our past but we definitely will not allow to spoil the future of our generations to come. All Ra.One's are thus hereby requested to be kind to the G.One (Lives) of public. Non-violence have chances far better to win this battle.

Revolution 2020: Is it a Revolution Anyway?

The young author's fifth degrading attempt is Revolution 2020. Do read The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand and watch a couple of bollywood movies including Rajneeti and you would arrive to what it is known as the latest release by Chetan Bhagat.

The book revolves around three main characters. Did you guess that two are boys and one is girl. Bingo! You are right. The story is very much predictable and thus looses interest of reader. While one goes to change the system by eradicating corruption, the other one goes to earn money by establishing a college. Reading the mood of India at present, the trick to get publicity by adding corruption as an issue too doesn't help much.

The first 80 pages will harass you with the procedures to get an admission in an Engineering college, which we all know very well. The remaining pages will make you feel as if you already know the story. In short, you would wait for the thing for which the author is expert in.

With the real revolution going on at streets, the release of Revolution 2020 is just a readable version of what you see in television and movies daily.

Don't blame the writer if the book turns out to yet again a Flop bollywood movie.

Book: Revolution 2020

The Unshakable Thought of being an Inventor

Google bought Motorola. A heap of patents (24,500; can you imagine?) thus got the search-engine giant's stamp.

Nineteenth century was a century of needs. Twentieth century was a century of physical-revolution. And, the twenty-first century is a century of research and development.

I had earlier blogged about getting a Ph.D. degree. The objectives may be any-many but point remains the same. A Ph.D. person is capable of thinking what 90% can't think and a Ph.D. person is able to DO what 98% of people can't even think of. For, you may compare it with a plumber (read the blog, If Einstein were a Plumber here) or may complain about the researcher's status in India, the fact remains that a researcher is a researcher by choice, not by chance.

If you have chosen the path, its time to excel in it. Isn't it true that we preach people to do their work sincerely? Do we not blame school, college, society, government and a few more agencies for not doing a thing or other on time and in a manner they should? If the answer of any of the above two questions, first, the individual blaming and second, blaming a group, is yes, then:

“It is THE time to soliloquize”.

Being researcher is a step before what India is most deprived of: an inventor. Ask yourself, if you really have an unshakable thought of being an "Inventor".

A Sixty Year Old "Longest Platform" of Education: Glimpses of IIT Kharagpur

Established on the grounds of Hijli Detention Camp in 1950, IIT Kharagpur is famous for its world class education along with world's longest platform of Kharagpur railway station. A pool of more than 2000 highly talented brains equipped with latest information and knowledge in their domain are supplied to the world each year. The sixty years old college has a very large knowledge base, alumni network and facilities for research. In the last six decades the branding of IIT Kharagpur has become so powerful that they are assumed to be bright and well trained to deliver the best in all the faces of life.

This is what the Director of IIT Kharagpur says:

Q. Do you think IIT Kharagpur will eventually become 'world-class'?

Dir: "We do have a positive state of mind to achieve this vision, but we have to make pragmatic  plans  and  real efforts to execute it. The real thing is  to  strive qualitatively reaching that – in our actions and in our in-depth achievements – in our research, teaching and outreach  programs  –  both nationwide and worldwide. I would say, one among many things  – 'The  real  secret is  to re-discover our strength, and project that in all angles'."

Q. What should be your vision for the next 15 years?
Dir.: "We  should  fully  explore  in establishing connectivity with our worldwide alumni network. There  has  to  be face-to-face interactions and establishing interconnectedness  with  its best alumnus worldwide holding many important positions,  this  pool  needs  to be  roped  in.  If  we  are  not able  to  reach out within our own  resources  that  we  had once  shaped  and  created in-house, then the vision is not going  to  work  out.  But  I  am hopeful."

Sadbhavna: Will a "Will" for "Goodwill" develop?

"Will" is a tool for free thinking. "Goodwill" is an intangible asset valued according to a disposition of kindness or compassion.

A quick test will give a wider understanding. It is a quick and dirty method to see if you want to waste your time negotiating a friend's offering to do something which you are not interested in. When someone asks for your perception about soul or conscience, you would give a dirty look or look at bottom just as to peep into yours. Take the time to normalize the things better and to sharpen your understanding. A little intention of doing good  is more good than a even little intention of doing bad.

Is this so important?

If not, you know there is not going to be any goodwill.  What are the assets you own except your body and soul, which you are so proud of?  Are they more valuable than the conscience you were peeping into? If so, you can pretty much build the bank balance but not the personal balance. On the fact that you are asked such questions, you would rather think of possibility that the person is made is too high. Look at alternatives.  Could you frame a system of goodwill without understanding a bit about it.

And we talk that the "System" is bad, when we are unable to defend ourselves.

What I am just asking is that start your goodness and goodwill and the world around us would be a better place to live in. Lets see if a will for goodwill develops.

Laugh at your own risk!!

He could die any moment. Doctor had informed to call everyone. Old uncles, fancy aunties, talkative sisters, and cool dudes, all were standing near his bed. Sob! Sob!

"Hey God! Please forgive me", he spoke to himself looking at his mother, for the last time in his life.

He murmured something in wet-throat, holding metal fence of bed firmly tightening fingers.
The pent-up voice depicted an inner gloom.

“Excuse me. Would you mind dying after ten minutes?” asked Uncle boldly interrupting him and said, "“Life is an intricate assortment of fragile dreams, exuberant memories, mixed emotions and precious relationships. One may discover truth, relativism, misery, mystery, monomania and more- A complete hide and seek. Attitude, lassitude, faith, hope, desire, risk are all determinants of life. It is all about selections and choices we make. It gives us alternatives everywhere and an intellectual picking is which decides the path persisted.”

Nonplussed. Puzzled. The red-eyed patient took a one-eighty-degree turn and inquired in a wet voice, “Why do we eat Mintos?”.

____________END of The STorY_________________

Some stories have no meaning or moral attached and we call it non-sense. To be very specific, non-sense tickles our sense and we laugh.
We Laugh.
Laugh to forget.
To forget misfortunes.
To forget past.
We Laugh.
First without sound.
Then with a little sound.
Then the load goes to mouth producing irresolute sounds.
We laugh till our eyes dry.
Till face becomes pale and eyes waterless red.

Can You Recall Your "Right to Reject"?

People are often annoyed if necessitated to respond to the most common question, “Who am I?” Don’t they know themselves, or are they so poor in language so as to reply to such a modest issue. Actually, we recognize ourselves but don’t realize our-self. Every day we wake up in the morning, see the face in mirror and recognize our face as we have seen this face several times before. What if, you wake up one fresh morning and find the face of your neighbor pasted firmly and naturally on yours. You may wash that face but in vain. You try to wash it but don't find your real face. Now, realize your “self”, find that who is deep within you, your body, your face, or someone most important, that is YOU.

Human beings are submissive by nature. We are, by all means, taught to accept things since our childhood. A simple law of Physics, a Mathematical corollary or a Chemical equation is to be stated as it is. You are told to accept that what is taught is the ultimate truth and nobody can reject it. The things are to be accepted, the way they are. We are taught, by multiple ways and through multiple agencies, to accept corruption, poverty and terrorism. The beauty of nature lies in its change. Accepting anything and everything doesn't bring change. Someone had rejected the fact of flatness of earth and somebody rejected to stay in darkness to invent a bulb. Recall that you have your own right to reject too. Reject the things which are harming your growth in any way.

Some people believe in chiromancy. They show their palm to a palmist who forecasts fortune, predicted on the basis of arrangement and intersections of lines in palm. But what if, a person meets an accident, loses his hands or one who is born armless. Rules of nature are always generalized for one and all, for armless and for others. Imagine that you are watching a movie with your friend who has already watched it three times earlier, and is pre-telling you about every upcoming scene or suspense. What will you do? You will demand his mouth shut, because you want to enjoy film to the fullest. And suppose again, he is pre-telling you the story which may or may not happen- He is making a guess. What will you do? Again you want him to keep quiet or shut-up.

If you want to enjoy life to its fullest, stop bothering about future. Future is not pre-written. Write it with your own hands, mind and soul, according to your terms and conditions. But remember, past cannot be re-written. So, live the present with your every effort and attempt, at its full volume, strength and energy, to seek a scintillating future and to have a memorable past. Look into your “self”, decide who you are. Others need you very much, they want to know you but first you know your-self, realizing who is that YOU within you.

Stop "Daily-Belly" Increase: Choose a Suitable Diet Plan

Look around and find any three people, and you would find at least one among them who is conscious about reducing  tummy. For most of the people, reducing fat is one of the important area to work on. Sooner or later, each one of us, Googles information to have a balanced diet and a finer look. Of course, it is better to kill a few cells in and around button to reduce belly rather than doing trouble-walk and suffer daily.

Incidentally, the third sentence of the above paragraph is also applicable to me. Having read a couple of blogs like this, I decided to share my own views on what it is called a Diet Plan.

Reminds of my Science teacher at school who said that, "A balanced diet provides all of the nutrients our bodies need, by the consumption of an appropriate amount of elements that contain energy. It is has no nutritional or calorific imbalances that might lead to inappropriate body weight (being  under- or overweight) or to general health problems. A person’s nutritional and energy requirements depend on their age: a healthy adolescent does not have the same needs as a sedentary elderly person, a pregnant woman or a professional sportsperson".

No single food material contains all the required items for a balanced diet and thus, the question remains, "What is a balanced diet?".

A balanced diet is based on three basic principles:
1. Meeting the body’s calorie or energy requirements.
2. Meeting nutritional requirements.
3. Eating a varied diet to have foods from different groups.

Reading about Nutrition gives an idea about how to fulfill above three objectives but apart from eating a balanced diet, following key points are to be kept in mind:
  • Take water
    • Water molecules are required to disintegrate food molecules and hence avoid their collection in the body. Whatever!! Take around 2-3 Ltrs. of water everyday and you would be fine.
  • Eat regularly
    • You can reduce fat by eating, literally. Regular eating habits is one of the most important lesson in a suitable diet plan.
  • Don't stress
    • An increased belly sometimes causes stress which initiate other problems as well. Don't stress when you have a belly because 33% of world is with you.
  • Have a proper diet
    • A regular diet and a proper diet are different things. Proper diet contains all the items which are prescribed in balanced diet which you have to eat properly (timely).
  • Stop comparing
    • Don't compare with others. Compare with yourself.
  • Control your mind
    • Eating junk and oily foods is a bad habit. Instruct your mind not to ask a chips pack when your eyes see one!

One out of the remaining two people I was talking about really want to increase their weight. So don't worry if you have some weight, you are with the majority of people who want a change in their life. Stop "Daily-Belly" increase, choose a suitable diet plan but remember to recognize yourself in your new slim look.

An Earthquake, A Riot, A Fast and An Earthquake again!

Nature plays its unique role in all the situations, be it the natural nature or the human nature! The sequence of events in the past decade are naturally a proof of the above sentence

Human being is package of hopes. They are hopeful of getting fruits even before the seeds are sown. They are hopeful of making profit even before the hands are put on to work. And, they are hopeful of getting a place in heaven, even before they start doing good things.

NO HARM in All. There can't be any castle on the earth without a castle in the sky. But seriously, isn't it required to look into both sides of a coin. The evil and the Good. The black and the White. The looser and the Truth.

A well planned mission is one where there are more number of options than the number of soldiers. We take nature for granted and nature does the same. And we continue the war when it replies back. A man is cruel and the nature is a step ahead. Take any example, and the answer will be clear. A riot starts with a cause (which is in human's nature: to win over), and ends with nothing but a stampede and a massacre! No side gets anything except some wounds and deaths. Nobody decides the good side and the bad side and nobody can ever do so.

On the contrary, fast is a way to clean oneself in the purest of forms available to humankind. A will to do something good comes from within and the soul gets purified!

An earthquake is natural riot, a Nature's way to show anger and disagreement. A fast is a method of telling to nature to be considerate to us. The ten year's shift of earthquake from the west India to the east India is also natural. Let us all join together, to throw the earthquake out of country by doing fast, at least for a day to urge the Nature to consider human nature. Let us ask for the forgiveness for the good of all.
